Mohs Surgery for Skin Cancer

The most important step when it comes to treating certain types of skin cancer is removing the tumor. But what happens next? Skin Cancer Care Specialists and Dr. Weisberg work directly with patients throughout the entire process of skin cancer treatment, including providing strategies and options for reconstruction of the skin after the Mohs surgery procedure is complete.

Once surgery is completed, Dr. Weisberg will work with the patient in deciding the best option for skin reconstruction. Some common options for reconstruction after surgery are as follows.

  1. Letting the wound heal by itself.
  2. Closing the wound in a side to side fashion with stitches.
  3. Closing the wound with a skin graft or a flap.

The best method for comprehensive reconstruction after Mohs surgery varies from patient to patient. Many reconstructive procedures are performed right here in our Jupiter, FL office, however, Dr. Weisberg will consult with other surgical specialists with unique skill sets if necessary to provide the best care possible in any given situation.

In the case that consulting with another specialist is necessary, the reconstructive procedure can take place on the same day or another day depending on patient circumstances. In some cases, reconstructive surgery may require a brief hospitalization for recovery, but a vast majority of wounds are able to be treated and reconstructed in our office directly following the Mohs surgery procedure.
